Week 98! September 5, 2016

Hello Everyone!

This was quite an eventful week. On Tuesday, I went to Singapore and got back on Thursday. Then I took a bus to Sibu on Friday. I’ve been in Sibu for just a few days now. It was sad to find out that Elder Lichfield had to return to America, but I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Sibu hasn’t really changed a lot since I was here in November 2014 to March 2015. Seriously, it hasn’t. The same members come to church. Except for that now their are some more former investigators and our branch list isn’t very updated. I can surprisingly remember a lot of places and members. I think out of all my areas, I remember Sibu the best. I am excited to serve here. I’ll work my hardest to be obedient and work hard. Sometimes for missionary work, the key to having success is just being obedient and getting to work. I just hope I’ll have a companion who wants to be exactly obedient. Those are my favorite missionaries. I do think that when I was serving here previously, there was something missing. My skills weren’t very good. I don’t know if my faith was lacking, I think it was probably fine, but I think, while I was here, I just kind of followed my trainer around, knocked on doors and asked people if they wanted to learn about Jesus Christ. I definitely wasn’t very good at testifying. My language skills are much better now, though I’m still not even close to being fluent.

For the last part of my mission here, I hope to help the branch become excited about missionary work. Elder Lundahl-Wolford shared with me what he learned at the previouse MLC (mission leadership council) with Elder Evans (a visiting general authority). It sounds like it was a great meeting. I hope I can call a lot of people to repentance and help people on their path to conversion. I’ll have to work on getting referrals from the members. Our area isn’t in a terrible state, but I’m basically starting from scratch, so it’ll still take some time to build things up.

While Elder Lundahl-Wolford was talking to me I had some thoughts. One was that Elder Evans was right about Elders not being good at contacting people. I think what a lot of people are missing is charity. I’ll work on developing charity. I already really love the people here in Malaysia. I just don’t know why the Chinese people in Sibu are so much different than in other places. There are still prepared people though, I have faith, not in the people, but that God will help prepare them. I really enjoy talking to people. Especially in Chinese. It’s just hard to have a balance of getting to know someone and talking WITH them and calling them to repentance. I have faith that I can become better at this during the last part of my mission.

So for the next while, I’ll be working on having charity, asking revelatory questions, talking WITH people, and being a consecrated missionary. I’m not going to give up. I’ll give it my all until the end!

Thanks for reading my letter!

Week 97! August 29, 2016

Hello Everyone!

This week, like other weeks, had it’s good parts and it had it’s bad parts. The beginning of the week went pretty well. We received five referrals from our investigator, we had some good lessons. Then we went to Miri on Thursday. Our exchanges on Friday were awesome! I really like Elder Lee. We saw a lot of miracles! I came with the expectation that we would talk with everyone, find a lot of prepared people, and have an awesome exchange, and that’s what we did. I really enjoyed the exchange. I think Elder Lundahl-Wolford and Elder Ee had a good exchange as well. Actually, Elder Lee and I took an hour and a half looking for a member’s house. We eventually found it, but he wasn’t at home. That part wasn’t good. Normally, 2 to 4 o’clock in the afternoon isn’t the best time to contact neighborhoods, but even though that happened, we still saw a lot of miracles. We found 16 potential investigators! A lot of them were really prepared too! It was great.

This next week will be very eventful. I’m being transferred to Sibu. This was a surprise transfer. I’m excited for the change though. I was actually thinking that could happen, just not this quickly. Sibu was my first area! It’s been a while since I was there. Though, it’ll be sad to leave Bintulu. I’ve really grown attached to these members. More than I have in my past areas.

Our area is progressing slowly. We may have to drop one of our investigators. We need to find some more. I’m sure Elder Ee and Elder Lundahl-Wolford will do well.

Thank you for reading my letter. Sorry it’s short.

Week 96! August 22, 2016

Hello,

This last week wasn’t too bad. We actually had some member present lessons! Our member just got his license so he can help us now. We have some investigators that are progressing, though they weren’t able to attend church.

We saw an awesome miracle today. Our new investigator gave us 5 referrals!

I went on a really good exchange with Elder Grant. We tried talking with everyone and we found a lot of people! It was awesome. I love talking with people. Sometimes I do really well and a lot of people talk to us and other times, we don’t do very well.

I’m excited for our district meeting tomorrow. It should be really good.

I’m still not the best at contacting people. I told Elder Ee that we are both very experienced missionaries, but somehow we’re still not the best at stopping people. This is what I’ll be working on this week. I think this is something that my entire district can improve on. Energy is crucial in contacting. Looking back on the missionaries who found a lot of people to teach, they all had a lot of energy. I love doing English class advertising. I feel so great after doing it. It makes me so happy. I should have that same feeling when I contact people!

Sorry that’s all I have time for.

Week 95! August 15, 2016

Hello Everyone!

This week was cool. The highlights of the week were interviews with President on Thursday. and district conference on Saturday and Sunday in Miri. The bus ride to Miri takes about 4 hours and it’s really bumpy. I learned that I kind of get sick in bumpy bus rides.

I think the miracle of the week is that our recent convert *** and our investigator *** came to district conference. They were actually paying attention as well. I hope they liked it. They said it was interesting. ***’s family is investigating the church. They’re really awesome.

I enjoy doing reporting with the Zone leaders. They always seem to receive revelation for us. Some things we’ll be working on this week is following up with members each day and teaching them the Restoration.

On Wednesday I went on a good exchange with Elder Jackman. He’s a good missionary. I really like Elder Jackman. He has a good heart and he really wants to do his best. Their companionship is still doing well. They have a vision and they’re working towards that vision. They’ve already been doing well at role playing each day (something that Elder Ee and I can work on). I think they’re going to have a lot of success this transfer.

Elder Toronto of the seventy came to speak at our district conference. I like what Elder Toronto said about faith in his talk on Sunday. He was quoting Joseph Smith’s lectures on faith. It’s really true though. We must believe in God, Understand his attributes, and know that they way we’re living is in accordance with his will in order to have faith. That’s something I’m working on.

I love the gospel. I love missionary work, and I’m thankful for all of you reading my update. Sorry it’s short, but that’s all you get.

Week 94! August 8, 2016

Hello Family and Friends!

This week went pretty well. I think it was better than last week. I love the people of Bintulu. They are really nice and accepting. Recently we’ve found some really awesome people. We should have a new investigator next week who is awesome. She may even be golden.

We’ve continued to see miracles here. We did some really fun english class advertising. We stood at an intersection with signs and handed out flyers. We still didn’t see any success from that though, some people did call us which was good.

We put *** on date yesterday! Her mom might take a little longer to accept, but she’ll eventually accept. *** (***’s older sister) will also probably be put on date next lesson. Their family is awesome.

Next week is our District Conference in Miri. That should be really fun. I’ve never been to District Conference in Miri. Only in Sibu, Kuching, and Kuala Lumpur. I also went to Stake Conference while I was serving in Singapore. I guess I’ve been to a District/Stake Conference in all my areas now.

We’re still not working with the members very well, but that should change this week. Hopefully we’ll be able to bring our investigator to our member’s house. Our member has time everyday, he just doesn’t have transport, but if our investigators have transport, they can come to him.

This next week should be awesome! Elder Jackman and Elder Grant seem like they’re doing really well. The house feels a lot different with the new transfer. I think we’re going to see tons of miracles, but we’ll have to collectively obedient!

I love the gospel, I love the Lord, and I love serving a mission! Thanks for reading my letter!

Week 93! August 1, 2016

Hello Everyone!

Sorry about not emailing on Monday. The internet was down here in Bintulu so we couldn’t email. I also don’t have very much time.

This last week went well. I would say the highlight of the week was Zone Conference. It was truly a spiritually uplifting experience. That was my first time I got the opportunity to bear my testimony at zone conference! Of course there were things that could have been improved, but I really enjoyed it. The training we received were great and I learned a lot. There’s a lot of things I can do to improve. I’m not even close to being a consecrated missionary. I won’t let that discourage me though.

We just got transfer news and I’ll still be with Elder Ee! I think we have a lot of potential. I just need to help us reach that potential. This transfer, I’ll continue to work hard at becoming a consecrated missionary and I’ll try to lead my district to do the same. I’m really excited for this transfer. We’ll definitely see miracles.

We had a good district meeting today. I like district meetings. I’m glad I can still be district leader. Sorry I’m all out of time now. Seriously, I don’t know where the time goes while I’m emailing.

Thanks for reading.

Week 92! July 25, 2016

Hello Everyone!

This week went well. Our area is progressing. We have some awesome new investigators who came to church! It’s a mother and her 2 daughters. One of her daughters is a friend of one of our recent converts in our group. Their family is really nice. We first met them at English class. Yay English class! I really enjoy English class. We had a pretty good turnout this week. They should be on date this next week.

My testimony of goal setting improved this week. In some missionaries, they have a desire to improve, but then there’s not really much action. I have a testimony of the importance of goal setting and focusing on improving. It’s just like Preach My Gospel says, if you don’t set goals, when you look back of your life (mission life) you’ll see that you didn’t reach your potential or you could have done much better. I’m sure many missionaries experience this. I don’t remember any missionaries telling me about this when I was a new missionary though. I’ll be sure to share my testimony about this with people.

This next week should be awesome, except for the fact that we’ll be out of our area for 4 days due to zone conference and exchanges afterward, but we should still be able to meet with some people.

Our companionship needs to get better at contacting. I think our contacts can be a lot more spiritual. I’ve been studying about testifying. That’s something I haven’t been the best at. I’m going to try to work on that this week.

This next week is going to be great! I’m excited to see how our new zone conferences goes.
