This week went really well! *** got baptized! (we learned that his name is actually ***, not ***) I always ask people if I’m saying their name right, then I ask them how to spell it and then I learn I’m saying it wrong. I guess it’s like when a Chinese person who is learning English tries to say your name and they say it sort of correct and you say “yeah, that’s good.” Oh well, it’s actually weird. Technically his name is spelled *** (That’s how you spell it in Malay I guess) It would be easier if they just spelled in pinyin. That was definitely the highlight of the week. Well actually there were a lot of highlights.
Our zone meeting was on Tuesday. It was awesome. We are doing a ’40 day fast’. We fasted yesterday and made a list of things that cause us to not have the spirit or that “poke at the spirit”. I’m really excited to do this. We are definitely going to see miracles, have the spirit, and really see Bintulu grow. Zone meeting was definitely a faith building experience. Yesterday was a great fasting day. The *** family is still progressing. They all came to church yesterday. Our prayers have payed off, I always pray that he’ll be able to stop smoking, drinking, and will be able to get off work to come to church.
We didn’t do the best job at scheduling things. We didn’t have very many appointments this week, but we definitely made a good vision for our small group and for our area.
We had a good ‘sort of’ branch council meeting yesterday. Next week we’ll start have 3 hour church! and we changed the starting time from 1:00 to 1:30. We’ll try to read scriptures before church starts. We’ll still tell people to get there at 1:00 so we can read scripture with them.
The work here in Bintulu is moving forward! I’m really excited for this next week. I know that as we work our hardest to be exactly obedient and to become purified and consecrated missionaries, we will have the spirit, our motives will change, and we will truly become tools in the hands of God.
My invitation to everyone is this: Next week, on Fast Sunday, fast and think about what things you can improve. Read the talk “What Lack I Yet” Write some things down that you think you can improve on, then pray to know what thing you should start doing. I promise that if you pray with a sincere heart and real intent, God will answer you and will help you improve. Repent daily, feast upon the words of Christ, and just try your hardest to be like Christ. Thank you all for reading my update.
