The MTC Choir singing at the General Conference Priesthood Session, October 4, 2014

Singing with the Lord’s Army!

Singing with the Lord’s Army!

The MTC is still awesome! I love it here. Here’s my weekly update.

Tuesday – We started off the day with breakfast and then choir which went well. They told us not to sing too hard because they didn’t want us to lose our voices. My voice was still feeling fine. We didn’t teach any investigator today, so that’s really the only exciting thing we did on Tuesday, besides the devotional of course. The devotionals here are always amazing. Gregory A. Schwitzer of the seventy spoke and his wife spoke. His talk was about the commandments. After the devotional, instead of going to the devotional review, the general conference had another practice. That one went well as well.

Wednesday – The most exciting thing that happened was that we got to do trafficking. It was pretty fun and in some points it was really crazy. The brethren in charge said that it was the craziest they’ve ever seen it. There were only about 450 elders and sisters coming in (compared to over 900 coming in earlier in the summer), but for some reason, a bunch of people came in at the same time. I got to see Aunt Pam! I was so surprised! We also had choir practice in the morning. It’s amazing how well we improved each day.

Thursday – Had another choir practice, this time in the chapel across the street. Sadly we didn’t get to go to service because I got my hair cut. Oh yeah, so I got my hair cut on monday, but they missed a part on the back of my head. I think they didn’t even cut it, so I went to get it fixed and then the sister cut my hair even shorter. Oh well, it still looks fine and as Dad always says, “Your mission isn’t a fashion show”, so it’s fine. We had a good day, nothing too exciting I can remember. Sorry I sometimes forget things.

Friday – Had our last practice before conference. I wasn’t really worried. I was sure we’d do great. Sadly I also forgot what happened on this day too. I sometimes don’t have enough time to write in my journal. I’m pretty sure I had a good day that day though because every day is awesome.

Saturday – Saturday was the best! The first session was awesome! Sadly I had to miss the second session because we were practicing in the little theater at the conference center. I heard there were some good talks given so I’ll have to read those later. After the first session we went to lunch, which was really crowded, and then we went on the buses. The bus ride was fun because it was kind of like a field trip. It was good for us to leave the MTC for a little bit. We arrived at the conference center and then started practicing. At 4 we ate and then at 5 we went into the conference center to practice. We sounded really good from where I was. Then priesthood meeting started. It was such an amazing experience to sing in conference. I think I felt a little nervous, but nothing serious, just the good kind of nervous. I’ll say that I didn’t have all the words memorized for we thank we oh god for a prophet. You could probably tell during conference, if you were watching, that some of the elders behind our conductor didn’t know the words. Haha it was kind of funny. Anyways, conference was great. After conference, we went back on the bus and they gave us a little sack lunch to eat. The bus ride was awesome. We had a little testimony meeting and sang songs. It was sweet.

Sunday – Sunday was also great. We started off the day by watching music and the spoken word. After that we watched conference. The were both awesome. In between we had lunch and walked around the temple. I loved watching both session of conference. I learned so much and there were some great talks. Later that night we had another devotional. Vai Sikahema spoke. He was great. He was in the NFL and is a reporter for NBC. He went to BYU. He shared missionary experiences and it was probably my favorite devotional we’ve had so far. After the devotional we watched the Joseph Smith movie, which I’ve already seen here, but I love that movie. I get emotional every time, it’s great.

I think that’s pretty much it for the week. Oh just a random thing, but I decided I’m going to start writing in cursive. So yeah. That’s it for my weekly review. I love it here. It’s great, and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to sing in conference. Good luck everyone. My prayers are with you!
